Manage images categories

  • Images settings are a part of MyPortal CMS, where you can set up a whole structure of images categories. First it is recommended to create all root categories according to your project. Later you can add also subcategories, because the depth is not limited. But the real feature od images settings are images types which can be appended to categories. Images types can be inherited from parent categories, but at least the root category has to have it's type set, otherwise you won't be able to insert images into it.

Images types {#types}

  • Images types are divided into two sections: images properties (dimensions, masks, cropping) and some optional fields, which are availabe in the database for each image. Each image has additional 11 fields available which you can allow or disallow separately for each images category. Every loaded image can store some or all of those optional fields beside itself.

Images properties

  • Every image can be saved in three different dimensions (and original as fourth image if you choose Images backup copy in main settings. All images are available by dimensions through MyPortal commands /image/small/[iid], /image/medium/[iid] or /image/large/[iid] (and /image/original/[iid] if enabled). More about including images in Images module.

  • Every image dimension has to have width or height set, otherwise it won't be stored to DB and available for use. MyPortal takes the longer side of the image and resizes it to desired size. The shorter side is resized proportionally. For example: if you want all medium images to be 400px wide, you have to set width of medium size to 400. Any vertical size of that image will be resized proportionally to horizontal size.

  • Compression (default 90%) is a setting of image JPEG quality when image is stored to database (higher is better).

  • Every image can be overlayed with any png mask, which should be uploaded to template/masks folder. Just select mask and mask's position and every image will be merged together with mask into single picture and stored into database.

  • Crop: when using crop option the process of resizing image is slightly different. First you have to set the width value and the height value as well. MyPortal takes the shorter side of an image and resizes it to desired size. After that the longer side is cropped out from the center of the image to fit the desired size.

  • Nolenarge ensures that image won't be resized if dimensions settings are larger than image itself (image stays unchanged).

Images optional fields

  • Every image can have also additional data beside: image name, description and url. If you check any of them in images settings they will be available when managing an image.

  • Every image has 3 optional fields for custom use of any purpose (field1, field2, field3). Each optional field is represented with a text field, where you may specify the field's alias. The optional field is not active if it's alias is empty. When managing an image, each of optional fields will be shown as text editing field with it's alias. For example: you can use field1 for the photo's price.

  • Every image has 3 optional checkbox fields for custom use of any purpose (checkbox1, checkbox2, checkbox3). Each optional field is represented with a text field, where you may specify the field's alias. The optional field is not active if it's alias is empty. When managing an image, each of optional fields will be shown as checkbox field with it's alias. For example: you can use checkbox1 for the image's visibility.

  • The tag field is used to write down a list of items (comma separated), which can be tagged on or off when managing an image.

Images resample feature

  • Sometimes it happens that you have to change the category's settings when some images are already uploaded into it. Don't worry, you don't have to upload them again, just use MyPortal's RESAMPLE feature! You have to click the images category's name and then click on the RESAMPLE buttom at the bottom right corner of the window. resample

  • You have to select image's source: small, medium, large or original (original in the example above). Then you select which image's sizes you want to resample (small and medium in the example). After clicking RESAMPLE all images will be processed according to new settings. Be careful: the source image must exist otherwise you'll resample empty images which will overwrite existing ones!
