Manage files categories

Files settings are a part of MyPortal CMS, where you can set up a whole structure of files categories. First it is recommended to create all root categories according to your project. Later you can add also subcategories, because the depth is not limited. But the real feature od images settings are files types which can be appended to categories. Files types can be inherited from parent categories, but at least the root category has to have it's type set, otherwise you won't be able to insert files into it.

New folder

Files storage

MyPortal stores files in two separated ways:

  • physical file is uniquely renamed and stored into the files folder,
  • the other file's data is stored into the database.

Files types {#types}

The files type is a collection of optional fields, which can be appended to any file and stored into the database. Each file has several fields available, which you can allow or disallow separately for each files category. Every uploaded file can store some or all of those optional fields beside itself.

Files properties and rules

Every files category can have different properties and rules for uploaded files:

  • File extension: Only files with the proper extension could be uploaded if this property is set (one extension or more comma separated extensions), otherwise you would be able to upload any file.
  • File size: This is the upper limit of uploaded file size, but you can leave it empty (no limitation).
  • Storage: You can set local or ftp storage for any files categories. If you select ftp storage, all physical files will be transferred to the FTP server (you must set also server name, folder, username and password).

Files optional fields

  • Every file can have also additional data beside: file name and description. If you check any of them in files settings they will be available when managing a file.

  • Every file has 3 optional fields for custom use of any purpose (field1, field2, field3). Each optional field is represented with a text field, where you may specify the field's alias. The optional field is not active if it's alias is empty. When managing a file, each of optional fields will be shown as text editing field with it's alias. For example: you can use field1 for the PDF file's author.

  • Every file has 3 optional checkbox fields for custom use of any purpose (checkbox1, checkbox2, checkbox3). Each optional field is represented with a text field, where you may specify the field's alias. The optional field is not active if it's alias is empty. When managing a file, each of optional fields will be shown as checkbox field with it's alias. For example: you can use checkbox1 for the file's visibility.

  • The tag field is used to write down a list of items (comma separated), which can be tagged on or off when managing a file.

Show default

Files categories with show default option work together with MyPortal built-in DB queries and language settings. When you work on your project in non-default language, the show default option will search through database for those files in default language which are not translated yet.
